Western Europeans are feeling better about themselves and their societies and may be emerging from a decade of doubt about their future, according to a poll designed to gauge the mood of 320 million residents in the 12 Common Market nations. “Euro-pessimism is on the wane,” said Carlo Ripa di Meana, a monitors public attitudes in the organization. The poll also showed a decline in Europeans’ trust of Americans and an increase in trust of the Soviets and Chinese.
