East German Woman Matches Own World Record (24-5 1/2) in Long Jump

East Germany’s Heike Drechsler equaled her world record Thursday with a long jump of 24 feet 5 1/2 inches at the Dresden Grand Prix international track and field meet.

The 21-year-old native of Jena, who set the record 12 days ago at Tallinn, Soviet Union, made the jump before a crowd of 36,000 at the Heinz-Heyer Stadium, following an impressive series of attempts measuring 23-7 1/2, 23-10 3/4, 23-11 1/2, 23-11 and 23-9. Helga Radtke was second with a leap of 23-7.

American Harvey Glance won the men’s 100 meters in 10.09 seconds, with Soeren Schroeder of East Germany second in 10.29.

Sergei Litvinov of the Soviet Union won the hammer throw at 282-3. In the shotput, world record-holder Ulf Timmermann of East Berlin threw 70-1 3/4.

East German Sabine Busch won the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 54.03, and East Germany won the 400-meter relay in 38.60, beating a scratch U.S. team that finished in 38.67.
