Thousands of residents attended church services Sunday to give thanks that a derailed tank car had finally stopped burning after belching toxic smoke through the city for five days.

Sunday was the first full day of normal life in this city of 15,000 since a freight train derailed Tuesday and a tanker filled with 12,000 gallons of liquid white phosphorus began burning.
