This young, brilliant, often eccentric Yugoslav pianist seems to approach every piece with a sense of discovery. Nonetheless, here is a rather standard reading of the piano concerto, a few nonconformist cadenzas notwithstanding. Which is not to say it isn’t breathtaking: The performance is charged with energy, enhanced by the virtuosity of all participants. Every note is given maximum attention by the DG engineers, without undue fussing.
