Hughes Aircraft will lay off 400 in Tucson.

Citing a bad business climate, Hughes said it will cut about 400 workers by the end of 1986, and more layoffs are possible. Most of the affected workers are in salaried engineering and administration positions that aren’t directly related to production. Hughes said that despite the layoffs, it expects to hire some new workers, particularly those with computer programming skills.
