Several industry analysts said the increase mirrored a drop in the cost of cocoa since January, when Hershey and other candy companies raised wholesale prices about 14.5%. Hershey said it will increase the weight of most of its standard candy bars by 10% to 14% without raising wholesale prices. The standard milk chocolate Hershey bar will be 13.8% heavier, increasing to 1.65 ounces, while the Whatchamacallit bar will become 28% heavier, a spokesman said. Most of the products in Hershey Chocolate’s “big block” line will grow from 2.2 ounces to 2.8 ounces, a 27% weight increase.
