Group Ends Fight to Bar AIDS Victim From Classroom
A group of parents who tried to keep acquired immune deficiency syndrome victim Ryan White out of school has decided to end its fight, clearing the way for the teen-ager to rejoin his classmates, the group’s attorney said Friday.
The group’s decision, reached earlier this week, was disclosed on the same day that the Indiana Court of Appeals dismissed a request by the parents to overturn a judge’s decision that allowed the 14-year-old to return to classes at Western Middle School in Kokomo.
Attorney David Rosselot said the parents had asked him to drop the appeal. The parents were trying to keep the teen-ager out of school because they feared their own children might contract the deadly disease.
“Nobody feels any differently about AIDS in the classroom,” Rosselot said.
