At least 30 explosions and several machine gun battles and rocket attacks shook part of the Afghan capital of Kabul in the past week, Western diplomats reported. They said that about 25 explosions and a two-hour gun battle were heard early on July 16 in the Darulman district where the Soviet Embassy, its cultural center and a Soviet residential complex are situated. The envoys, quoting reports from Kabul, said they did not know who was fighting and could not substantiate a report that 10 to 15 rockets had hit the embassy.
