The World : Mexicans End Vote Sit-in
Supporters of Mexico’s conservative opposition party ended their five-day sit-in on a bridge connecting Ciudad Juarez with El Paso, Tex., and traffic began moving across it again. Francisco Barrio, former gubernatorial candidate of the National Action Party, said the sit-in accomplished its purpose of uniting the community to protest alleged vote fraud by the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party. The decision to abandon the sit-in came after rumors that the army was getting ready to drag the protesters off the bridge. Barrio said his party plans new actions to continue pressuring the government to nullify the July 6 elections in Chihuahua state.
