Businessman Hopes to Paint Town Red With Van Gogh Inn
The inn where Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh died has been purchased by a businessman who plans to turn it into a tourist complex in time for the 1990 centenary of the artist’s death.
Dominique-Charles Janssens, 38, who paid $357,000 to buy the inn in this town north of Paris, said last week that he hopes to maintain “the spirit” of the building while developing it for tourism.
Van Gogh died at the inn in 1890.
By a decision of the Culture Ministry, Van Gogh’s room and the staircase leading to it cannot be altered in any way.
