A Peruvian general who led a crackdown on a prison revolt in which more than 100 accused guerrillas were killed must stand trial, Peru’s Supreme Court said. The high court will decide whether army Gen. Jorge Rabanal should face military or civilian prosecution for his involvement in the alleged execution of prisoners that followed the inmate rebellion at Lurigancho Prison in June. A civilian court has ordered Rabanal arrested on murder charges, and the Peruvian Congress has been deadlocked on the naming of a commission to investigate the deaths.
