REDMOND, Wash. — Scott Berryman lost his first race in the men’s match sprints at the U.S. National Track Cycling Championships Saturday but won the last one and took the gold medal.
Berryman, of Boulder, Colo., had to work his way back into the winner’s bracket through the repechage rounds.
He won two straight races from Olympic gold medalist Mark Gorski of Indianpolis in the semifinal round, then beat silver medalist Nelson Vails of New York in the final.
