Freed Inmate Finds Girlfriend Married, Slays 9 in Turkey
A Turkish villager who was released from prison to find that his former girlfriend had married another man killed nine people in a frenzied outburst, Turkish newspapers said Tuesday.
Nurettin Aksit, 26, spent 16 months in jail for abducting Neriman Akcan, then a minor. He returned to his village near the town of Denizli in western Turkey this week to find she was already married, the newspapers said.
The daily Hurriyet said Aksit shot or knifed to death nine people he met Monday as he searched in vain for his former lover. Authorities later arrested him and three other people.
Those killed included Neriman’s 40-year-old mother Hanim and her 17-year-old sister Medine.
