Chip Hanauer set a world hydroplane record for one lap by driving the Miller American at 141.343 m.p.h. in qualifying for Sunday’s $110,000 Thunderbolt event on Onondaga Lake at Syracuse, N.Y. The previous record of 140.818 was set by Hanauer two years ago at Evansville, Ind.
