Princess Caroline’s Husband, Nearly 26, to Be Cleared of Draft Obligations
Stefano Casiraghi, husband of Princess Caroline of Monaco, is in the clear with his draft board and will be free of military obligations next month on his 26th birthday, the Defense Ministry says.
The ministry issued a statement on Casiraghi’s military status last week, in response to a question in Parliament about newspaper reports that Caroline’s husband might be a draft dodger.
Italian newspapers said Casiraghi, son of a wealthy northern Italian industrialist, claimed in 1983 that he was unfit for the draft because of a genital tumor that left him temporarily impotent.
He and Caroline have since had two children.
Casiraghi appeared for another medical examination in November, 1985, and was “judged fit for military service.”
“When Casiraghi reaches his 26th year Sept. 8, 1986, he will be given an unconditional discharge,” the ministry said.
