HMO Brand of Medicine

Has the good Dr. Bronow ever taken time to think why we have HMOs? Could it be because he and his fellow physicians each year have added to the cost of medical care and that in some years their rate of increase exceeded the national inflation rate?

As to the doctors participating in HMOs, is Dr. Bronow suggesting they render “a second-rate brand of medicine”? After all, they are his peers with equal training and experience.

As to his efforts with the medical pharmacies and the offering of discounted prescriptions to his patients, nice idea; but where was this kind of thinking in years gone by when many doctors owned all or part of pharmacies? Where were the discounts then?
