Almost 300 leaders and activists of the banned Polish independent trade union Solidarity are still in detention, the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions said Thursday.

In a statement to mark the sixth anniversary Sunday of the Gdansk agreements in which the Communist government recognized Solidarity’s independence, the Brussels-based trade union body called on its 82 million members to reaffirm support for the outlawed union.
