World champion Elena Shushunova of the Soviet Union held off a challenge from 4-foot-6 Daniela Silivas of Romania and won the all-around gold medal in the women’s competition of the World Cup gymnastics tournament at Peking.

Shushunova, 17, who finished first in the 1985 World Championships at Montreal, scored 39.825 points, including a perfect 10 in the vault, in the four events. The 16-year-old Silivas finished with 39.70 points.

Americans Kelly Garrison and Sabrina Mar finished 13th and 14th, respectively. Garrison fell on both the uneven bars and the balance beam, finishing with 36.975 points, while Mar suffered a back spasm during the competition and ended up with 36.80 points.
