Dairy farmers in New York, Maine and Vermont poured milk onto the ground to protest government policies and low prices. John Fogler, a deputy agriculture commissioner for Maine, said checks with other states’ agriculture departments indicated “no sizable support” for the protest. The farmers want a price of $23.10 for every 100 pounds of milk, up from the current price of $11.86, said Bill Mack of Ilion, N.Y. He said that price would provide a farmer with the same standard of living as the general population.
