Prosecutors dropped charges against an ally of ousted Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos and six other leaders of a failed July 6 revolt in return for their recognition of the government. “It is hoped that the Philippine people will harken to President (Corazon) Aquino’s appeal to put this matter behind us and work for unity and peace in our land,” Justice Minister Neptali Gonzales said. Former Sen. Arturo Tolentino and six of his associates submitted sworn statements pledging to “acknowledge the existence of the present government” and to “forswear the use of force and violence for the overthrow of the said government.”
