Britain said it is tightening visa controls for visitors from West Africa and the Indian subcontinent after complaints of immigration chaos at Heathrow Airport. A Home Office statement said that visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria and Ghana who previously were allowed to enter Britain without visas must now obtain one. The move will have the effect of closing a back door through which citizens of former British colonies have entered Britain as tourists and stayed as illegal immigrants.
