Cathy Smith Given Three Years

Cathy Evelyn Smith, a former rock backup singer who admitted injecting comic John Belushi with drugs before he died in 1982, was sentenced to three years in prison today by a judge who called her “the source of the poison.”
Superior Court Judge David Horowitz said, however, he believes the true responsibility for Belushi’s death from a fatal dose of cocaine and heroin must be attributed to the comedian himself. He told Smith, 39, that this did not absolve her and that only prison time could teach her a lesson.
