North Korea said it will boycott the Asian Games in Seoul, South Korea, later this month.

The official Rodong Sinmun newspaper accused South Korea of planning to use the games to perpetuate the division between North and South Korea. A spokesman for the games organizing committee in Seoul said it has not yet received formal notification of the boycott.

North Korea has opposed the choice of Seoul to host the Asian Games and also the Summer Olympics in 1988.
