Inmate Walks Off Job: A convicted drunk driver working as part of an inmate crew in downtown Santa Ana walked away from the job Tuesday morning and was still at large by nightfall, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. Lt. Dick Olson said the inmate, Santiago Chavarria, 31, of La Habra was not considered a danger to the public. A crew supervisor discovered that Chavarria, who had been working in a building services crew at 511 N. Sycamore St., was missing at about 10 a.m., Olson said. He said Chavarria had been in custody at the James A. Musick minimum-security facility, one of the county’s so-called honor farms. Chavarria was scheduled to be released from jail on Feb. 8, 1987, Olson said.
