Yugoslavia’s Federal Court upheld the May 14 death sentence for Andrija Artukovic, former police minister of the Nazi puppet state of Croatia, the state-run news agency reported. Attorneys for Artukovic, 86, who suffers from several ailments including Alzheimer’s disease, said they plan further appeals. Yugoslav authorities say more than 700,000 Jews, Serbs, Gypsies and others died in concentration camps in Croatia during Artukovic’s tenure, but he has denied any direct involvement in the crimes. In Seal Beach, Calif., Artukovic’s son, Radoslav, called the court decision “an injustice.”
