The cooling tower of an auto-parts factory is a source of Legionnaires’ disease that has infected up to 31 people in Sheboygan, Wis., health officials said. Water samples taken from the tower showed traces of the bacteria, legionella pneumophila, which has been confirmed in 17 of 31 people hospitalized recently, the officials said. At least three people have died in the outbreak. The factory agreed to shut and clean the cooling system.
