Two gunmen on a motorcycle killed an investigator who two days earlier found 400 pounds of cocaine on a jetliner bound for Miami, police said Tuesday.

Carlos Luna Rojas was killed Monday afternoon as he drove along an expressway on his way home from work at Avianca, a Colombian international airline, authorities said. His attackers fled.

Avianca had assigned Luna Rojas to investigate drug shipments on flights to the United States and to check connections between airline employees and drug traffickers, police said.

In recent months, unknown assailants have killed the police chief of Bogota’s anti-narcotics squad and a Supreme Court justice involved in extraditing drug traffickers to the United States.
