Arcadia : More Homeowner Grants

The Arcadia City Council, in an effort to meet both housing needs and county requirements to spend federal Community Development Block Grant funds as soon as possible, will nearly double the number of homeowners who will receive grants under the city’s Home Improvement Program.

The program provides grants of up to $10,000 to low- and moderate-income people for maintenance and repair of owner-occupied single-family residences.

The city had received applications from 26 people who qualify for the program but could help only 13 because funds were limited. The council has since voted to assist at least 12 others by using $42,698 in new block grant funds and taking the rest from other previously allocated but unspent block grants.

Most of the homeowners who qualified are senior citizens who need to make plumbing, electrical and roofing repairs.
