Santa Ana : Judge Orders Candidates to Change Statements

Share

Superior Court Judge Harmon G. Scoville on Wednesday ordered four claims deleted from candidate statements filed by two prosecutors running for the same judgeship.

Scoville ruled that statements by both Paul S. Robbins and James M. Brooks violated state law that prohibits judicial candidates from attacking competitors in statements printed and circulated by election officials.

A story in The Times’ Sept. 4 edition incorrectly identified two candidates for Orange County Municipal judge. Paul S. Robbins is a a deputy prosecutor for the City of Long Beach, and James M. Brooks is an Orange County deputy district attorney.

Scoville also found that Brooks included misleading information on a poll of lawyers on judicial candidates, and he ordered the offending paragraph deleted.
