Nine Romanians who had been living in Fullerton until recently asked U.S. Capitol police in Washington for political asylum, claiming that their home was being bombarded with radiation, a congressional official said. Ernest Garcia, Senate sergeant-at-arms, said he had no further details about their claim. “What they are asking for is totally unclear,” said Verne Jervis, spokesman for the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Garcia said all nine Romanians, whose last name is Timar and who apparently are members of the same family, had been living as permanent U.S. residents in California for four years.
