A San Diego County man and two companions were arrested for trespassing at the Nevada Test Site in an effort to reach ground zero for what they said was a scheduled nuclear weapons test, but federal Department of Energy officials declined to confirm there was such a test. The Nye County Sheriff’s Department and a DOE spokesman confirmed that Hal Brody, 42, of La Mesa; Maggie Williams, 53, of Nederland, Colo., and Edward Trunck, 53, of Boulder, Colo., were taken into custody before they reached their destination on the vast testing grounds. “We’re doing this to call attention to the fact that this was the first test after the Russians extended their moratorium,” Brody said. “We want to call attention to the fact that the nuclear testing mechanism is the way of developing new nuclear weapons.”
