A 300-pound Thousand Oaks man who authorities say called himself “the enforcer” and “the fixer” has been sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison after being convicted of assaulting, robbing and extorting money from three young men who spent time around a Newbury Park auto body shop. He was also convicted of assaulting his girlfriend.

Randy George Wells, 28, received the maximum sentence Thursday in Ventura County Superior Court.

Wells was convicted July 25 of one count of extortion, two counts of robbery and 10 counts of assault. The counts stemmed from eight incidents from September, 1985, to November, 1985, and involved four victims--three Thousand Oaks men in their early 20s and Wells’ 19-year-old girlfriend, Deputy Dist. Atty. Saundra Brewer said.

Brewer said she presented evidence during the trial to demonstrate that the defendant “brainwashed these victims by intimidation--he beat on smaller guys. They felt they didn’t have any recourse.”

Brewer said that, according to testimony, Wells robbed two men in separate incidents, once threatening the victim with a knife and once with a hammer ax.

During the trial, Wells denied the charges.
