WYETH’S WORTH
As an artist, I am reeling with disgust at the petty, envious, snide expose your so-called art critic, William Wilson, has leveled against Andrew Wyeth (“Is Wyeth Worth It?,” Aug. 31).
Is his blessed “Art Establishment” any different from the iconoclastic snobs at the Beaux Arts who scoffed at the efforts of the Impressionists?
I do not equate Wyeth with such artists, but why make his signature, his style, a limitation in the eyes of others?
Wilson is like the ghost pointing an empty sleeve. If he himself were a creator instead of a poison-pen spectator, scoffing and deriding a thing to be celebrated and enjoyed, he might not be so quick to carp on Wyeth’s so-called “grave artistic shortcomings.”
As to Wilson’s shortcomings, they are too numerous to mention.
