Bellflower Council Members to Take Drug Test Before Meeting

Share

On Monday night the City Council will be the first in the Southeast area to undergo voluntary drug testing.

Council members will take a urinalysis that will be administered by officials from Doctors Hospital in Bellflower, before the council meeting, according to Craig Nealis, assistant to the city administrator.

The testing comes two weeks after the council unanimously passed a resolution requiring all prospective employees to take a drug test before they can be hired.

According to Councilman Mike Brassard, who introduced the idea four weeks ago, staff members have been meeting this past week to revise the ordinance to include current employees. Brassard said the staff is expected to report back to the council at its Sept. 22 meeting.

“I feel really good about this and I’m glad we are coming along so quickly with it,” Brassard said.

According to Nealis, results from the tests, which cost about $15 each, will be confidential.
