Costa Mesa Council Election

Share

As 27-year residents of Costa Mesa, we are incensed and insulted by recent news media reports regarding John Gardner’s and Mesa Action’s efforts to influence the candidacy for City Council in our city.

Although it is reported that there is some question as to whether these actions can be deemed illegal, there is no question in our minds as to the lack of morality and integrity on the part of Gardner. We do not feel that anyone, much less a non-resident of Costa Mesa, should be permitted to tamper with the rights of the voter without at least severe chastisement.

It is apparent that since the Mesa Action movement became visible on the local political scene, there has been a growing lack of harmony on the City Council and a sense of frustration and disenchantment on the part of most of our current and former political leadership. It is not surprising that this state of affairs exists if Gardner’s recent action speaks for the ethics and philosophy of Mesa Action.

Perhaps it is time for Costa Mesa voters to seek out candidates who are interested in the future of the city and who perhaps are not as well trained in attempting to control the opposition and fixing elections.
