Harvard University’s 350th birthday party ended with a service of thanksgiving and remembrance at Memorial Church conducted by the Rev. Peter J. Gomes. Crimson banners came down at the Cambridge, Mass., campus and alumni of the oldest college in the nation bade farewell. A gala week had been marked by a party along the Charles River, a program attended by 27,000 in Harvard Stadium, and tributes from Britain’s Prince Charles and U.S. leaders.
