Educator Gets 2 Years Probation

School administrator Stuart Bernstein was sentenced today to two years’ probation and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service for failing to promptly notify police of allegations that teacher Terry Bartholome sexually abused a student at 68th Street Elementary School.

Judge Sidney Cherniss passed sentence on Bernstein, 48, who had faced a possible six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The basis of the case was the prosecution’s complaint that Bernstein waited two weeks before telling police about complaints of sexual abuse by Bartholome, who was convicted in June of 30 counts of molestation and lewd conduct involving 13 of his third-graders.
