Net Earnings Increase 35% in 2nd Quarter for Ultrasystems Inc.

Ultrasystems Inc. said net earnings for its fiscal 1987 second quarter, ended July 31, increased 35% to $2.2 million from $1.6 million. Revenues during the quarter increased 12% to $39.6 million from $35.3 million.

Included in the second-quarter earnings was an extraordinary gain of $391,000 resulting from the sale by Irvine-based Ultrasystems of part of its holding in a power plant at Chinese Station, near Fresno. Last year, Ultrasystems reported an extraordinary gain of $995,000 from the sale of part of its stake in an affiliate firm in which it had held a 33% share.

For the fiscal first-half, Ultrasystems, which specializes in alternative energy plants, said net earnings rose 40% to $3.5 million from $2.5 million.

Revenues during the six months climbed 15% to $78.2 million from $67.9 million.
