Bolivian anti-narcotics police, ferried in helicopters flown by American pilots, captured the biggest cocaine laboratory seized so far in the joint campaign against drugs, Interior Minister Fernando Barthelemy said. The abandoned laboratory, in a mountainous area about 480 miles northeast of the capital of La Paz, contained more than 12,000 gallons of ether, a highly flammable compound used in processing cocaine, and several airstrips. No cocaine was found, and no arrests were made, he said. It was the ninth laboratory seized since 170 U.S. military personnel arrived in Bolivia on July 14 to assist in the raids.
