Crows that drop walnuts on the airport runway in this Alpine town to get the kernels are littering the tarmac with shells, airport officials report.

They say the shells can cause serious vibrations in planes using the airport, and the airport has spent about $25,400 on a sweeper to clear the nut litter.

The Grenoble region in the foothills of the French Alps is known for its commercial nut production.
