The district attorney’s office is considering whether to file charges against the owner of an El Cajon auto-repossessing business, a former policeman suspected of tapping into police computers, a San Diego police spokesman said.
On Monday, the San Diego Police Criminal Intelligence Unit, assisted by the Sheriff’s Department and the El Cajon Police Department, obtained a warrant to search Auer & Associates, in the 1100 block of Greenfield Drive, spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Police suspected that the firm was engaging in “unauthorized and illegal use of computerized police information,” Robinson said.
The owner, Paul Auer, left the San Diego Police Department in January, 1980, Robinson said.
