Soldiers chased a guerrilla band deep into the jungle of Suriname, and heavy fighting was under way, the government of the northeastern South American country said. It said that troops from French Guiana have joined in patrols along the Marowijne River, where rebel attacks against isolated military outposts began July 21. The rebels are led by former army private Ronny Brunswijk, who is seeking to oust the government of Lt. Col. Desi Bouterse.
