Amnesty International said that hundreds of people, most of them young men belonging to the Tamil minority, have disappeared in strife-torn Sri Lanka over the last three years and that many reportedly were tortured and killed by security forces. The London-based human rights group cited the arrests of 272 people between June 14, 1983, and last April 20 and said that none of the 272 have been seen since. It also said it has the names of 341 people reported to have disappeared in the Batticaloa area between January, 1985, and last Feb. 18.
