La Verne : Test of Well Purification

Share

Three Valleys Municipal Water District and the city will launch a demonstration project next week to test the feasibility of eliminating harmful nitrates from ground water supplies in the east San Gabriel Valley. The testing, which will be the first of its kind in the United States, will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Park at 6th Street and White Avenue.

If successful in purifying currently unusable wells, the project could reduce the east valley’s dependency on imported water by as much as 20%, according to water district officials. In addition, officials say, the purified water will be about 25% cheaper than water imported from the Central Valley or the Colorado River.

Three Valleys Municipal Water District is an independent agency that delivers water to retail utilities serving Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas, Walnut, Diamond Bar, Glendora, Industry, Rowland Heights, Covina, Covina Knolls, West Covina, Azusa and La Puente.
