Violent thunderstorms over the Great Lakes produced at least three tornadoes in Michigan, killing one woman in Allegan County when a tree toppled onto the car she was driving, officials said. Blustery storms pushed into the Plains bringing high winds, snow and heavy rains that left seven feet of water flowing through the Minnehaha County Courthouse in Sioux Falls, S.D. A warm front created temperatures 20 to 30 degrees higher across the Midwest, ending a September cold snap that set record lows in dozens of cities. Chicago reported an overnight low Wednesday of 70 degrees, 27 degrees warmer than Tuesday’s record-low 43 degrees.
