A Lions Club executive for the Middle East was kidnaped in West Beirut, one day after American educator Frank Herbert Reed was abducted at gunpoint by Islamic militants. Beirut radio said that Victor Kano, a Lebanese Christian of Syrian origin who heads 35 Lions Club branches in Lebanon and Jordan, was seized by three unidentified gunmen.
