Classes resumed under court order for 13,000 students in Port Huron, Mich., and Boston teachers reached a tentative contract pact, averting a strike that would have idled 58,000 students. Walkouts by 5,000 teachers affecting about 80,000 students continued in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Rhode Island, Washington and Pennsylvania.
