Episcopal Churches to Raise Funds for Shelter
An auction to benefit the Episcopal Service Alliance’s Martha House, the only facility in Orange County for single, homeless women, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro.
Presented by the Trinity Episcopal Church in Orange, the auction will also feature help from the Blessed Sacrament Church in Placentia, St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church in Garden Grove and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin.
Last year, a wine tasting and silent auction sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church raised nearly $10,000 for the facility, which ministers to homeless women and helps them become independent again. This year’s event includes a no-host bar and hot buffet for $15 per person. All donations are tax deductible.
Martha House, which opened in Santa Ana in 1983 and later moved to Orange, focuses mainly on women with the skills to make it on their own but who are temporarily homeless, according to an interview with the Rev. Douglas Edwards, pastor of Trinity Church. The Episcopal Service Alliance, an ecumenical service agency, is also planning to open a facility for homeless families in San Clemente.
Anyone interested in attending the benefit should call the Episcopal Service Alliance at (714) 637-6109.
