Reagan Seeks Anti-Drug Vow by Teachers
President Reagan called on America’s schoolteachers Friday to take a pledge against using drugs, saying the nation owes its young people “nothing less than a good example and a good environment.”
At a ceremony in the White House Rose Garden, Reagan saluted representatives of 272 elementary schools that have been honored for excellence by the Education Department.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to call on teachers across America to take the pledge to take no drugs themselves and to do the best they can to keep all drugs out of schools,” Reagan said.
“We owe our children nothing less than a good example and a good environment,” he added.
Reagan and his wife, Nancy, will address the nation on the drug problem at 5 p.m. Sunday.
