Laura Mitchell has been appointed assistant director of annual giving and Jeannette Woo has been appointed assistant director of admissions at Pomona College in Claremont. Mitchell, of Palos Verdes Estates, graduated from Pomona College and previously studied at the University of Edinburgh and at the Goethe Institute in West Germany. Woo, of Alhambra, graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont and previously served as assistant director of admissions at Woodbury University in Los Angeles.

Karen Graham Wade has been named director of the Workman and Temple Homestead, a historic museum in the City of Industry. Wade previously served as education director at the museum and as deputy director of the New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission in Louisiana. Wade replaces Carolyn Wagner, who resigned.

Stuart B. Elliott, a physics professor at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, has been elected a fellow of the Optical Society of America, a technical society devoted to increasing and dispersing knowledge about optics. The society was formed in 1916. Elliott received his doctorate from Stanford University.
